Nick’s Policy Positions

Cost of Living

We must focus on lowering the cost of living so Louisiana families can get ahead. That means lowering healthcare and prescription drug costs, making housing and childcare more affordable, and ensuring that people who work full time can earn a living wage.

Agenda

  • Raise the federal minimum wage and index it to inflation so wages keep pace with rising costs

  • Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit to put more money back into the pockets of working families

  • Lower prescription drug prices by allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies

  • Expand affordable early care and education so parents can thrive and children receive key learning milestones

  • Protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare

  • Simplify tax filing and expand free IRS Direct File so families do not have to pay costly tax preparation fees

Economy and Jobs

Louisiana needs an economy that rewards work, not just wealth. That means investing in small businesses, rebuilding our infrastructure, supporting workers, and making sure corporations that profit from Louisiana pay their fair share.

Agenda

  • Invest in small businesses, entrepreneurs, and local economic development

  • Expand access to capital through community banks and Community Development Financial Institutions

  • Invest in workforce training, apprenticeships, and community colleges

  • Bring advanced manufacturing, energy innovation, and technology jobs to Louisiana

  • Strengthen Buy American policies to support domestic manufacturing

Kids and Families

Every child deserves a safe and healthy start in life. Louisiana families need stronger support systems that help children succeed and parents thrive.

Agenda

  • Establish national paid family and medical leave

  • Restore and expand the Child Tax Credit, which cut child poverty nearly in half

  • Expand access to affordable early care and education

  • Address Louisiana’s high maternal mortality rate with evidence-based prenatal and postpartum care

  • Invest in programs to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable children

  • Remove lead and other environmental hazards from drinking water and schools

Safe Communities

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community. Public safety requires both community-focused law enforcement and smart investments in prevention, treatment, and mental health services.

Agenda

  • Support local law enforcement and first responders with federal resources and training

  • Expand mental health crisis response programs so officers are not the only responders in emergencies

  • Combat fentanyl trafficking while expanding addiction treatment and recovery services

  • Require background checks for gun purchases

  • Pass safe weapon storage laws to reduce accidental shootings and youth gun violence

Healthcare

Healthcare should be affordable and accessible no matter where you live. In Louisiana, too many families struggle with high costs and limited access to care.

Agenda

  • Protect Medicare and Medicaid from funding cuts and reverse the cuts put in place by the current Congress

  • Lower prescription drug costs

  • Expand access to mental health care

  • Address Louisiana’s maternal mortality crisis

  • Protect women’s healthcare access and patient privacy

  • Expand telehealth to improve access in rural communities

Education and Workforce

Strong schools and workforce training are the foundation of economic opportunity. Louisiana must invest in teachers, students, and career pathways.

Agenda

  • Increase federal investment in public schools and increase teacher pay

  • Expand early childhood education programs like Head Start

  • Make community college and career training more affordable through federal support

  • Reform student loan repayment so borrowers are not trapped by compounding interest

  • Expand apprenticeship programs in skilled trades and high-growth industries

Energy, Environment, and Disaster Resilience

We can protect our communities while also growing jobs in the energy economy.

Agenda

  • Invest in coastal restoration and hurricane protection infrastructure

  • Build resilient power grids, flood protection, and disaster-resistant infrastructure

  • Support energy jobs while expanding investment in clean energy and innovation

  • Hold polluters accountable for environmental damage

  • Ensure every community has safe drinking water and clean air

Democracy, Ethics, and Accountability

Louisiana voters are tired of corruption and political games. Government should work for the people, not special interests.

Agenda

  • Ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks

  • Reverse the effects of Citizens United and reduce the influence of dark money in politics

  • Strengthen ethics rules and transparency in government

  • Protect voting rights and ensure fair access to the ballot

  • Defend the rule of law and democratic institutions

Civil Rights and Anti-Discrimination

The promise of America is that everyone should be treated with dignity, fairness, and equal protection under the law. Yet too many people in Louisiana still face discrimination because of who they are, where they come from, or who they love. Protecting civil rights strengthens our democracy and ensures that every person has the freedom to live, work, and participate fully in our communities.

Louisiana’s strength comes from its diversity - our unique culture, faiths, and backgrounds - and our laws should reflect the principle that everyone deserves equal opportunity.

Agenda

  • Protect and strengthen federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, education, and public accommodations

  • Pass comprehensive federal nondiscrimination protections so that LGBTQ+ Americans cannot be fired, evicted, or denied services because of who they are

  • Defend the right to vote and oppose voter suppression efforts

  • Protect the right to make personal medical decisions without government interference

  • Ensure equal pay for equal work and close persistent wage gaps

  • Protect religious freedom while ensuring it cannot be used as a license to discriminate against others

  • Combat hate crimes and strengthen enforcement against violence motivated by racism, antisemitism, anti-LGBTQ+ hatred, or other forms of bigotry

  • Ensure access to legal services so all Americans can defend their rights in court

Foreign Policy and National Security

The United States is strongest when we lead with our values, work with our allies, and defend democracy around the world. A strong and responsible foreign policy protects our national security, supports American workers and businesses, and prevents conflicts before they begin.

Louisiana contributes directly to America’s global strength - from our ports that support international trade to our military bases and service members who defend our country. Our foreign policy should support American leadership while avoiding unnecessary wars and investing in diplomacy.

Agenda

  • Strengthen alliances with democratic partners to defend global stability and counter authoritarian threats

  • Oppose foreign wars of choice that drain American resources, cost American lives, and drive everyday prices higher for Americans

  • Support a strong national defense and ensure service members and military families receive the resources and care they deserve

  • Support robust diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting, durable peace in the Middle East with robust humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and a two-state solution and end to aggression.

  • Prioritize diplomacy and conflict prevention to reduce the risk of costly and prolonged wars

  • Support Ukraine and other democratic partners facing aggression from authoritarian regimes

  • Promote global trade policies that protect American workers while expanding export opportunities for Louisiana industries and ports

  • Strengthen cybersecurity and protect U.S. infrastructure from foreign interference and cyberattacks

  • Maintain strong oversight of military engagements and ensure Congress fulfills its constitutional role in decisions about war
